Swiss racer Sébastien Buemi is now a member of the maxon family

    Date: October 13, 2019 9:00 PM

Drive specialist maxon and Swiss car racer Sébastien Buemi team up to share their passion for precision, efficiency, and e-mobility.
Racer Sébastien Buemi knows what precision and efficiency are. After all, the former F1 driver has already won 13 races in the new Formula E and was the world champion in 2016. Being fast is not enough to be a front runner in this fully electric race series, a driver must also be efficient with the available energy, or the battery will be empty before he reaches the finish line. That's why Sébastien Buemi is a perfect match for maxon, whose high-end electric motors can be found not just in Mars rovers, but also in the Ad-Blue injection systems used in Formula 1 race cars... read more

How e-mobility will change our world

    Date: May 7, 2019 9:00 PM

It's a silent revolution. However, it can't be stopped: People are increasingly using electrical power for personal transportation and for moving goods, creating new requirements for drive technology.
Fifty years ago, who would have thought that a family could go on a road trip in their car without burning a drop of gasoline? Or that even untrained cyclists could tour the mountains? Or that pulling weeds could be a task for robots, not people? These are only three of many examples that show the influence of electric drive systems on our daily lives and our mobility.... read more

      Opportunity is waiting for light

      Date: October 2, 2018 12:00 AM

On July 7, 2003, the NASA twin robot Opportunity embarked on its journey to the Red Planet from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Today, 15 years later, it is still sending life signs back to Earth – despite a heavy sand storm.
Over the past few weeks, NASA engineers tried to contact Opportunity several times. However, they haven't heard back from the rover, which is almost 15 years old. The team is now assuming that the charge in Opportunity's batteries has fallen to below 24 V, causing the rover to go into the low-power default mode. In this mode, all subsystems except a mission clock are turned off. The mission clock of the rover is programmed to wake up the computer so that it can check the power.

If the rover's computer finds that the batteries are not sufficiently charged, it goes back into standby mode. Due to the high amount of dust in Perseverance Valley, the mission engineers believe that it is unlikely for the rover to collect enough sunlight to recharge for the next few days... read more
